What is happiness?

It is quite an old question but till now it has no definite answer. But happiness is used in context of positive mental states of mind like joy, pleasant emotions, life satisfaction, great achievement , etc.

The meaning of happiness can be different for different people.

There are various things which makes a person happy like:

  • Getting praised be others
  • Achieving something he/she dreamt of
  • Getting a gift
  • Meeting with a loved one.
  • Old happy memories, etc.

But now the question arises that :

where we can find happiness?

If happiness is not in wealth, not in achieving big dreams, or anything like that then where is that happiness really is?

To tell where happiness really is I would like to share a small story:

“An old man lived in the village. The whole village was tired of him; he was always gloomy, he constantly complained and was always in a bad mood. The longer he lived, the viler he became and more poisonous were his words. People did their best to avoid him because his misfortune was contagious. He created the feeling of unhappiness in others.

But one day, when he turned eighty, an incredible thing happened. Instantly everyone started hearing the rumor: ‘The old man is happy today, he doesn’t complain about anything, smiles, and even his face is freshened up.’

The whole village gathered around the man and asked him, “What happened to you?”

The old man replied, ‘Nothing special. Eighty years I’ve been chasing happiness and it was useless. And then I decided to live without happiness and just enjoy life. That’s why I’m happy now.’”

With this story it is very clear that we keep running behind happiness. We try to do each and everything possible in order to get happiness but still we never get that happiness. And the answer is because we never try to enjoy our life and that’s where the true happiness is.

Happiness comes when we enjoy our life and stay satisfied with whatever we have. We can see many rich people with all luxuries and things but still they are not happy and on the other hand there are people who earn very less and for them luxuries are something they can’t even think of, live a much happy life.

There are few things from where you can get this true happiness:
